2016 has been mostly dedicated to working on a novel but I have managed to keep a few other projects on the go in the meanwhile.
In March, I took part in the RTE Filmbase Short Film Award and though my script wasn’t ultimately selected for production, it proved a great place to meet directors, producers and fellow screenwriters.
In July, my feature ‘The Leisure Project’ was selected as one of the finalists for the Pitching Award at the Galway Film Fleadh.
In August, my short story ‘Honda Wave’ made the longlist for the Over the Edge New Writer of the Year competition.
Shortlisted in the Emerging Fiction category for this year’s Hennessy Literary Awards on April 8. Fingers crossed for this one!
I will be reading my short story ‘Copper’ from Doire Press’ Fiction and Poetry Anthology this Sunday at 7 in Jack Nealon’s pub on Capel St, Dublin. Come along for a pint and plenty of mumbling.
My story ‘Caldene, 1993” will be published in the Hennessey New Irish Writing section of the Irish Independent on the 26th of this month. Quite excited to see it. Won’t be in the country for its publication but the folks will surely save me a few copies!
Happy to have my story ‘Despair in the Departure Lounge’ featured in the new issue of Wordlegs. The issue will be launched with a showcase in the Workman’s Club on the 7th of July.
Enjoyed reading at the Ropes 2013 launch in Galway last night for the Cuirt Literary Festival. My short story ‘An Adolescent’s Guide to Playing It Cool’ is featured in it along with lots of great poems and stories around the theme of Coming of Age. Available to order from their website or from a number of bookshops including Charlie Byrne’s, Kennys, Bell Book and Candle, the NUI Galway College Bookshop and OMG@Zhivago.
Was very happy to win Short Story of the Year at the Student Media Awards last week for my story ‘Caldene, 1993’ A good week for the MA with Ruth Quinlan winning the Hennessy Award for First Fiction for her story ‘The Healing’.
